It is the policy of the company that all its employees will receive adequate and appropriate training in matters of health and safety and all employees will receive site induction training to ensure their health and safety at work. All employees shall co-operate with Helix Industrial Roofing in all safety, health and welfare matters and maintain their place of work and all their equipment in a tidy and safe condition and shall not interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interest of their health and safety.
The policy reflects the commitment of the Directors to matters of health and safety. David O'Dowd has the responsibility of implementing the policy and formulates strategy for the company's health and safety requirements. It will also be his duty to organise systems of work that preserve the health of his employees and other people concerned in the business.
It is the requirement of all the company's employees to ensure their own safety and others around them when carrying out their works. All employees are given lines of communication to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities. All employees should be aware that there is no conflict between safety and production. Safety is the priority above all else.
Where required to do so the Company will conform to the requirements of a Principal Contractor or Contractor in matters related to the Construction (Design & Management) Regs 1994 and will conform to a clients health and safety site requirements and will co-operate in matters of health and safety.
The company will provide to its employees suitable articles of protective clothing. If its sub-contractors are not provided with suitable protective clothing the company will provide that clothing and the costs will be deducted from the sub-contractors account.
The company will provide mechanical and non-mechanical equipment for its works and operations to comply with the requirements and that its employees will be trained and certified in the use of that equipment. It is the company policy that no equipment is to be used on site unless it has been certified to do so.
The company will conform to current waste management requirements in the disposal of its waste materials from its works or operations.
The responsibility for the matters of health and safety on site and elsewhere will be delegated to its managers and site supervisors. In the case of smaller sites it will be the responsibility of the visiting supervisor to ensure the companies health and safety requirements are adhered to.
The company will comply to the health, safety (first aid) regulations and also the requirements of RIDDOR
The company safety rules will constantly be reviewed to ensure they correspond to all regulatory requirements and the appointed supervisors will constantly monitor the prevailing conditions on site to ensure the required controls are maintained.
The company expects that its employees will cooperate with its Managers and Supervisors to ensure the health and safety policy of the company is maintained, improved and implemented.
The above statement is prepared in due consultation with those involved in the company health and safety development.
The development of the company procedures are documented in other locations within the health and safety policy document. The policy statement has the full backing of the board of Directors of Helix Industrial Roofing Limited.
Steve Simpson is our external health and safety advisor. Steve's remit is to carry out health and safety inspections on a number of contracts twice monthly. During his visits, he liaises with Construction Managers responsible for site safety. He holds tool box talks with helix operatives and provides a site specific health and safety report, which is copied to operatives and posted to head office. Steve introduces himself to all site personnel and follows up his visit with a report copied to head office.
